Ballito Lions spread Easter joy to paediatric cancer patients

Donated gifts and treats were handed over to children at Albert Luthuli Hospital earlier this month.

The Easter Bunny has a slightly less famous, but equally generous cousin – the Easter Lion!

Members of the Ballito Lions paid an early Easter visit to the children in the paediatric cancer ward at Albert Luthuli Hospital recently, delivering gifts and treats to the young patients.

The gifts were sponsored by Amazon, while the treats came from a successful fundraising event hosted by the Lions last year in aid of the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa (CHOC).

“As we spent time with the children, all under the age of 10, we were struck by their incredible resilience and courage in the face of adversity,” said Lions fundraising manager, Ken Chapman.

“Despite the challenges they are facing, their smiles and laughter lit up the room, and their gratitude for the small gifts was heart-warming. It was a poignant reminder of the importance of our work with CHOC and the impact it has on the lives of these remarkable children and their families.”
