Ambitious Sibaya Coastal Precinct development launches next phase

Road upgrades will help service new residential and commercial projects.

Devmco Group has broken ground on a new phase at Sibaya Coastal Precinct, marking the next chapter in one of KZN’s most ambitious development plans.

The infrastructure rollout includes new roads, services and a non-motorised transport network to support housing, shops, offices and public facilities across the coastal node.

“This next phase of development is shifting from vision to implementation. The roads, the services, the active transport network, it all starts now, and with it, the full expression of our master plan comes to life,” said Brad Winstanley, commercial director at Devmco Group.

The on-site groundbreaking ceremony was attended by provincial leaders including KZN Premier Thami Ntuli, MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Reverend Musa Zondi and eThekwini mayor Cyril Xaba.

A key feature of the project is a new network for walking, cycling and golf carts, connecting Salta Sibaya and the coastal areas via an underpass beneath the M27 highway. The aim is to encourage a lifestyle that reduces car dependency.

Upgrades to the M27 have also begun, with plans to expand it to six lanes and add new interchanges for easier access in and out of Sibaya and Umdloti.

Future phases will include 400 new homes, over 100 000m² of retail and office space, a medical centre, hotels, a design district and a potential expo or conference venue.

Over the last decade, Devmco has helped shape the Sibaya Coastal Precinct through developments such as OceanDune, Pebble Beach, Gold Coast Estate and Salta Sibaya. With development control over Nodes 1, 5, 6 and 7, the group is consolidating its long-term vision into a future-focused coastal city.

“This is not a short-term investment strategy, it’s a generational vision. We are building a precinct for families to grow into, for investors to trust, and for Durban to be proud of for decades to come,” said Winstanley.

Premier Ntuli welcomed the development and praised its economic potential, highlighting the creation of an estimated 5 000 jobs as a key benefit.
