Ballito Pro turns up the volume for free concerts this week

The series culminates on Friday with a loaded live music line-up headlined by beloved singer-songwriter Matthew Mole.

Three days of electric music performances will rock Salt Rock Main Beach as the Ballito Pro’s free concert series returns this week.

The iconic concerts have become one of the defining features of the Ballito Pro festival, and this year includes something extra special.

Along with the traditional Thursday and Friday performances, organisers have added a Wednesday concert to the schedule, showcasing some of the country’s biggest musicians from the 80s and 90s.

Matthew Mole is set to lead Friday night’s performance.

The Ballito Pro Infinite Playlist – adapted from a stage show that earned acclaim in Durban and Cape Town – is an audio-visual journey exploring the links between surfers and musicians.

“The best songs are rarely manufactured through cold calculation, they arise from a place of emotional truth,” said Sector Apparel managing director Gary Green, who developed the Infinite Playlist concept.

“The process is akin to surfing a wave. A surfer doesn’t command the ocean or predetermine the wave’s shape; instead, they respond to its natural rhythm, learning to move with its energy.”

Ballito’s DJ Merlon is one of the Pro’s most consistent and beloved performers.

The stacked Wednesday line-up features music and members from legendary bands like Squeal, Perez, Arapaho, Just Jinger, Ella Mental, Tree63, The Kickstands and the Black Lapels – alongside Arno Carstens and Robin Auld. World champion longboarder Steven Sawyer and local surfer-musicians Ryan Logie, Kevin Colby and Warren Dixon also feature.

On Thursday, the beach transforms into a dance floor as some of South Africa’s top DJs take over. Mörda (also known as Murdah Bongz), DJ Merlon and DJ Sox lead the high-energy night, supported by Durban’s Blanco Nero and the winner of the Battle of the DJs competition.

The series culminates on Friday with a loaded live music line-up headlined by beloved singer-songwriter Matthew Mole. The Saxby Twins, Booshle G and Matt Gardiner round out the bill, before DJ Kyle Cassim closes the night.

Festivities begin at 5.30pm nightly, ending at 9.30pm, 10.30pm and 11.30pm on July 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
