Bloom Special Needs School card game fundraiser a smashing success

A morning of card camaraderie ensured everyone played a winning hand.

A colourful shuffle of cards and community spirit made the Festival of Cards a winning hand for Bloom Special Needs Therapy Centre and School.

Held at Sugar Rush Park last Thursday, the fundraiser drew 160 enthusiastic players for a day of bridge, canasta and camaraderie, all in support of Bloom’s mission to provide therapy and education for children with special needs.

Neville Clarence, Jody Feuilherade, Kitty Phillips, Monique Bowmaker and Rose von Romburgh.

“It is vital for Bloom Special Needs Therapy Centre and School to continuously fundraise throughout the year, and we are constantly trying to think of different ideas for events so that our community enjoys them thoroughly!” said Bloom fundraising co-ordinator, Debbie Nicholson.

The idea stemmed from hosting a bridge event to reach out to the older generations in the community. People from as far as Mount Edgecombe and Zinkwazi took part.

The fundraiser received positive feedback from attendees and was considered a great success.

The school extended sincere thanks to the event’s supporters and sponsors: Collisheen, Vida Water, Aroujo Attorneys, Kijk Optometrists, 10/10 Stationers and the Bloom parents for providing exquisite food. Special recognition was given to Kitty Phillips, known as the ‘Bridge Queen’, for her key role in helping run the event.

Based on the success of this initiative, Bloom plans to make the Festival of Cards an annual event on its fundraising calendar.
