Ballito rallies for Scott Meyer: Join fundraisers to support stroke recovery

Scott now faces a long and challenging road to recovery, which includes extensive therapies, ongoing medical treatment and critical medication.

The community is rallying to support a beloved and respected father of three, who suffered a serious stroke at Fairview Estate, outside Ballito.

Scott Meyer (50), Macadamia Co-op CEO of Fairview Estate and an expert landscaper and farmer, was rushed to ICU at Alberlito Hospital for treatment on August 27.

Two weeks later, Scott was transferred from the medical ward to Busamed Private Hospital in Hillcrest, where he is currently undergoing extensive rehabilitation.

The stroke affected the left side of his brain, leaving him paralysed on the right side and unable to speak. He began eating on his own again on September 16.

However, Scott has shown remarkable resilience said friend and colleague Sam Larkan Wacher, who has spearheaded fundraising efforts through the Meyer Support Group.

“Scott is passionate about his work and family. Somehow, he pulled through, but there is a long road ahead,” she said.

Scott’s recovery includes daily physiotherapy, speech therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), which is not covered by his medical aid or gap cover. He requires 40 HBOT sessions, costing R52 000.

“Scott now faces a long and challenging road to recovery, which includes extensive therapies, ongoing medical treatment and critical medication,” added Sam.

Clayton, Scott and Ronda Meyer recently enjoyed a family braai.

To help cover costs, two major fundraising events have been organised in the coming weeks, including a GofundMe campaign, set up by friend TJ Balazs, who has known Ronda Meyer (48) her entire life.

“I created this for those of us who care so deeply for the family, to help in any way we can in contributing towards the mounting medical expenses, we can hopefully help ease some of the enormous pressure Ronda is under right now,” said TJ.

A charity dinner will be held on Wednesday, October 15 at 6pm at Maroupi Wedding and Functions Venue on the R102. Comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout will headline the evening.

Tables of 10 are available for R15 000, or individual tickets for R1500, including dinner and wine. A cash bar will be available. Contact Cheryl Peters on 082 055 2010 to book.

“Scott is an integral part of the Fairview community,” said Stacey White, a neighbour and friend who is helping Cherly with the charity dinner.

“He has made so many people’s dreams come true, especially those wanting to farm but do not have the background.”

Following the dinner, a fun run/walk will take place on Saturday, October 25 at Holla Trails, Sugar Rush Park. Registration opens at 3:30pm, with the race starting at 4pm. Entry is R100 per person.

After the run, attendees can enjoy R50 boerie rolls and drinks specials at the braai area. To book, visit Scott Meyer’s Fun Run/Walk Fundraiser.

All proceeds go directly to the Meyer family. The event is made possible by generous sponsors, including Holla Trails, Food Fundi, Butcher Boys and Fairview Estates, who have waived fees and donated goods to maximize support.
