Team Engen takes top honours at Ballito Neighbourhood Watch potjie competition

More than 70 pots were entered into the popular annual fundraising competition.

Townsend Park buzzed with festive energy on Saturday as hundreds gathered for the annual Ballito Neighbourhood Watch (BNW) potjie competition.

Despite strong winds and threats of rain, more than 70 pots were entered into the friendly cook-off, drawing a large and lively crowd.

The Wildlife Rescue team: Marcelle Rootman, Gary Frances, Lindy Elmes, Leanne Jamieson, Shylo Frances, Jeanne Hands and Zarina Cooper.

The overall winners were Team Engen, who claimed victory with their hearty mutton and giblet pot served with roti, a long-awaited win after four years of entering the event.

“Winning is very exciting. We always want to support the Neighbourhood Watch and are already looking forward to defending our title next year,” said team leader Rajesh Ramperthab.

BNW chairperson Morné Steffens thanked the community, volunteers and sponsors for making the event a success.

“It has become one of the highlights of the Ballito calendar. Local companies come together and the public enjoy some truly mouth-watering potjies.”

Funds raised will support BNW safety projects, including ANPR camera upgrades, patrol gear and new monitoring installations. Steffens also thanked the Rotary Club of Zimbali for donating R15 000 towards a new ANPR camera.

“Together with our security partners, we continue to make Ballito a safer place to live,” he said.
