Ballito duos compete in upcoming kykNET cooking show
An official watch party for the premiere will be held on November 20.
Ballito food lovers are invited to Mozambik Ballito on Thursday, November 20 at 8pm for a special watch party of kykNET’s latest cooking reality show, Kokkedoor: Son & See.
The show celebrates food’s role in family life, pairing amateur cooks from across South Africa in family duos with at least a 20-year age gap.
Among the eight teams are two with strong Ballito connections.

Ronélle de Klerk (39), a local architect and founder of RANFT Architects, competes alongside her aunt, Marianne du Plessis (64), a retired nurse from the Western Cape. Ronélle, who grew up on farms in Namibia and the Kalahari, said her childhood sparked her passion for food.
“Meat was central in our home, from raising it to cooking it. My mum taught neatness and good baking. My dad taught confidence with fire and flavour.”

Her favourite home-cooked meal is slow-roasted leg of lamb with garden herbs and baked vegetables.
“More than anything, good food is about good company. A meal is an occasion,” she said.
Andrew Anderson (57), a pastor at AGS Lig & Lewe in Ballito, joins the competition with his daughter, Leoné Smit (30), a homemaker and farmer from Vryheid.
Andrew’s love for cooking came from his late mother, Marie.

“She brought people together with her food. Her passion was having the family around a table.”
Andrew enjoys restoring cars, deep-sea fishing and cooking pork ribs and surf-and-turf.
“I’m an energetic, passionate person who enjoys life,” he said.
Kokkedoor: Son & See airs on kykNET (DStv channel 144).
