Road cracks force P104 closure, disrupting agricultural and energy logistics
A makeshift detour is unsuitable for commercial use by farmers and the Avon Peaking Power Plant.
The Dolphin Coast business community is calling for urgent repairs on the Glendale Road (P104) which has been partially closed for two weeks.
While a makeshift detour is in place, it is unsuitable for commercial use by cane farmers and the nearby Avon Peaking Power Plant.
iLembe Chamber of Commerce CEO Cobus Oelofse said the chamber has called on the transport department to prioritise repairs, following a meeting held on November 5.

“The detour is far too narrow for heavy trucks and its poor surface makes it unsafe for tankers and cane loads. Meanwhile, the alternative P103 route is still damaged from the 2022 floods. We need urgent, co-ordinated action to restore safe access,” said Oelofse.
Avon Peaking Power Plant, CEO Niroshma Chetty said while they are affected, their operations continue, but that road conditions are posing serious logistical and safety challenges.
Local sugar cane farmer Kiki Mzoneli from Nyangane said the closure was creating anxiety for farmers.
“If the P104 stays closed much longer, production will drop and jobs will be lost,” she said.
