Zimbali Lakes secures R2.2-billion investment to fast-track key developments

The investment follows a record year in sales at the estate.

A R2.2-billion investment into Zimbali Lakes will speed up several of its largest internal developments.

Comprising R1.2-billion from Dubai-based IFA Hotels and Resorts (Zimbali Lakes’ principal investor) and R1-billion from Absa Bank, the funding will support the next phase of bulk earthworks, construction and infrastructure development.

The priority projects include the Zimbali Lakes Clubhouse, Zimbali Square retail centre, Zimbali Sports Club, Ernie Els Suites, Avanti Residences and the TSC Supercar Showroom and Vault. Completion is expected by 2028.

“Zimbali Lakes is exponentially growing and expanding, we feel the euphoria,” said Werner Burger, CEO of IFA Hotels and Resorts South Africa.

“More importantly, we are demonstrating our commitment through immense financial and resource investment to create an estate that offers both luxury and legacy, a destination that will serve the North Coast community for generations to come.”

Absa CIB managing executive for commercial property finance, Somaya Joshua, said the bank was proud to support the development.

“Our R1-billion funding underscores our confidence in the project and its potential to redefine living and investment on KZN’s North Coast,” he said.

The investments follow a record year for Zimbali Lakes, which recorded R280-million in sales during the first nine months of 2025, with 161 land opportunities still available.

Meanwhile, the Ernie Els Signature Course, launched in April, has already welcomed more than 7 800 golfers and hosted a series of high-profile tournaments.

Looking ahead, the 15 000m² Zimbali Square retail centre will include anchor tenants Checkers, Dis-Chem and Woolworths, alongside a variety of restaurants and other retail offerings.
