Natal Nomads raise R300 000 for Orphan Fund

The funds were raised across two well-supported golf days.

The Natal Nomads Golf Club recently raised R300 000 through the Andrew Mentis Nomads Foundation to support two projects under The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.

The fundraising initiative included the Andrew Mentis Race Day, held at Greyville Racecourse on October 1 and the Andrew Mentis Golf Day at Kloof Country Club on November 7. Both events were spearheaded by club vice-captain Darrell de Jager, who explained the motivation behind the initiative.

The names of the two beneficiaries are being withheld until the official handover is announced at a later date.

“The Andrew Mentis Nomads Foundation was created to channel the funds generated for distribution to pre-selected, worthwhile causes,” said Darrell.

“One of the most important objectives of Nomads Golf is the collective spirit displayed by all club members toward raising funds for charitable purposes and recognising those less fortunate.”

Darrell emphasised that fundraising is directed at specific, often under-the-radar projects, rather than high-profile charities.

“We visited both organisations and saw they were doing great work, so we decided to support them. No money is handed over directly, only costs related to general administration are covered,” he said.

Since its inception, the Andrew Mentis Endowment Fund has raised and donated about R50-million to charitable causes across the country.

Darrell also thanked the many sponsors and members who made the fundraising events possible.

“If it wasn’t for all of the generous sponsors, days like these would not be possible, let alone successful.”

Charmaine Premlal, fundraising co-ordinator for the Orphan Fund, expressed deep appreciation.

“We are so grateful. These were not only wonderful events, but a true blessing for the two beneficiaries of the Orphan Fund. Your kindness brings hope to those in need.”
