Mandeni and Tugela community leaders inspire at Hope Awards
Pastor Garon Govender and author Verushka Solomon will receive awards in recognition of their service to others.
Two local changemakers will be honoured for their humanitarian work at the upcoming Weekend of Hope Awards Ceremony, taking place on 6 December at Bonamanzi Game Reserve in Hluhluwe.
Pastor Garon Govender from Tugela Mouth and author Verushka Solomon from Mandeni will receive awards in recognition of their service to others and unwavering community commitment.
Now in its second year, the international awards ceremony is organised by Kelly Markey of the Beacon of Hope Mission, celebrating deserving individuals in South Africa, Australia, the USA and beyond.
Govender, born into a devout Christian family in Tugela, has dedicated his life to faith-based community service in Mandeni. He leads youth programmes, outreach projects and empowerment initiatives and is being recognised for his consistent devotion to uplifting others.
Solomon turned to writing after the devastating loss of her husband of 23 years, using storytelling as a way to process grief and fill the void left in her life. She now runs a widow support group and hopes to guide others through the journey of healing and resilience.
Both Govender and Solomon embody the ethos of the Weekend of Hope awards, to look beyond one’s own struggles and amplify the voices of hope, strength and compassion in their communities.
