A meeting of fine dining and fine art at The Gallery

The exhibition space hosted a five course dinner and wine pairing evening.

A unique food and wine pairing evening at The Gallery last week offered lovers of both artistic and culinary creativity a first-of-its-kind local experience.

Held in the exhibition space at Lifestyle Centre on Wednesday, the event featured the paintings of Linka Rasmussen, the works of ceramicist Rebecca Katherine Rose, a five-course meal by Caetlin Potgieter (Private Chef Ballito) and pairings with Delaire Graff wines. Gallery curator and organiser Sarah O’Reilly described the event as “something I have always wanted to do.”

Chef Caetlin Potgieter made magic in a makeshift kitchen at CoffeeLab.

“I have long had this picture in my mind of using an exhibition space to host a sit-down dinner and it has turned out better than I could have hoped. Thank you to everyone who came together to make this possible,” said O’Reilly.

Fine artist Rasmussen, originally from Somerset West but now based in Salt Rock, exhibited her ‘Sun Drenched’ series of coastal-inspired paintings.

“I love the lush nature of KwaZulu-Natal’s sub-tropical climate and the art of Paul Gauguin and I feel that all finds its way into my work,” she said.

The evening also marked the first public exhibition of Rose’s ceramics, which she creates in her home studio in Ballito.

One of the signature pieces from Rasmussen’s Sun Drenched series.

Surrounded by art, the guests tucked in to five sumptuous courses prepared by former yacht chef Potgieter. That yacht background came in handy as she and her team managed to make magic from the small kitchen of the nearby Coffee Lab. A grouping of excellent Delaire Graff wines rounded out the evening, ensuring a memorable experience for those attending.

The Gallery’s ‘Nostalgia’ exhibition is now back in place and will run until February 1 next year. The exhibition is open daily from 9am to 5pm.
