The 20th annual Litchi Festival was bigger and better at a new venue this year, with juicy litchis in abundance.

Pietermaritzburg siblings Raquel and Stanton Govender with his children Zyana Hope (8) and Mikko Chase (9).

Families from far and wide made the trip to Verbara Farm in the Glendale Valley to experience true litchi paradise, from early December until festival closure on Tuesday, December 23. Sun hats, takkies and plenty of gees were the only requirements for an excellent day out.

Visitors were able to eat as much as they liked in the orchards, before taking home either an 800g or 1.6kg bag depending on their tickets. For the first time, a value-for-money combo deal also allowed access to the The Hidden Forest Wildlife Sanctuary, just down the road.

Litchi Harvest – a similar litchi picking experience – is taking place at the nearby Sunhill Orchards until 27 December (closed 24 and 25 December).
