Country glamour and close games at polo picnic

Ballito and Umhlanga shared the spoils after a tight match.

Sport, style and local flavour were on the menu at The Ballito Polo and Wine Affair held at Oakland Equestrian Estate on Saturday.

The lifestyle event drew more than 250 attendees and showcased South Afican wineries while offering guests live music, picnic-style hospitality and an exciting polo match, creating a relaxed yet vibrant country atmosphere.

On the field, the much-anticipated clash between the Ballito and Umhlanga teams delivered thrilling action, ending in an 8-8 draw.

Clive Hill on BB, Casey Bennet on Apache and William Crowe on London.

The Ballito team, featuring Scott Rattray, Charlotte Armstrong (SA Junior Ladies) and Max Hill (SA Junior Men’s), got off to a slow start and found themselves trailing by four goals midway through the game.

“The team showed great determination to fight back and make it a well-contested game right to the end,” said Rattray.

The Umhlanga team included Clive Hill, former Springbok polo captain, alongside Will Crowe and Casey Bennet.
