NSRI to manage water safety at Club Med’s new Tinley Manor resort

The NSRI will recruit and train lifeguards from the surrounding communities.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) will manage all water safety and lifeguarding services at Club Med’s first-ever resort in South Africa, set to open in Tinley Manor next year.

The partnership marks a significant milestone for the proudly South African organisation, which has led drowning prevention, water safety education and rescue operations since 1967.

The NSRI operates at 131 coastal and inland locations across the country, supported by more than 1 500 volunteers and experienced full-time staff.

The Club Med South Africa Beach and Safari Resort is backed by a R2.2-billion investment and developed by Collins Residential. It is expected to be the largest hospitality development in the country in more than 30 years.

The resort will offer a unique mix of beach, ocean and safari experiences, attracting thousands of visitors to KwaDukuza each year.

NSRI business development manager Dirk Coetzee said the partnership was built on a shared commitment to excellence.

“Club Med wanted the very best when it comes to water safety. Our reputation for professionalism and operational excellence made the NSRI a natural choice,” he said.

Beyond guest safety, the appointment will also bring benefits to surrounding communities. The NSRI will recruit and train lifeguards locally.

Collins Residential project leader Chris du Toit said the partnership reflects a focus on quality and community upliftment.

“This development is about showcasing South African excellence. Working with an organisation as trusted as the NSRI ensures the highest standard of care for guests, while creating meaningful opportunities for local communities,” he said.

The resort will include a variety of water environments, such as family pools, a dam, beachfront areas, a surf school and access to the Indian Ocean.

Coetzee said each area will be overseen by highly trained lifeguard teams.

“Our aim is for guests to relax and enjoy their stay, knowing they are in safe hands. True safety is built on trust,” he said.
