Elvis lives again in Private Presley ballet at Durban’s Milkwood Theatre

Private Presley explores the triumphs and tribulations of the music icon's life.

The life, love and legend of Elvis Presley will be brought to the stage in Private Presley – The Ballet, a powerful reimagining of the King of Rock ‘n Roll’s story by renowned choreographer Sean Bovim.

Presented by Mzansi Ballet, the production runs from 13-15 February at Durban’s Milkwood Theatre and stars international ballet sensation Jorge Wade of Mexico as Elvis, alongside South African Prima Ballerina Angela Revie as Priscilla Presley.

Private Presley explores the triumphs and tribulations of the music icon’s life, from the peak of his fame to his military service and intimate relationships.

Originally created by Bovim and now newly reimagined, the ballet offers an emotionally charged tribute through a fresh lens, highlighting the influences that shaped Presley both personally and professionally.

Joining Mzansi Ballet on stage are dancers from Taryn Makaab’s studio, while celebrated costume designer David Hutt has been tasked with capturing the vibrancy of Elvis’s era in the production’s bold wardrobe.

“Doing Private Presley has been a privilege and it is a wonderful addition to the Mzansi Ballet repertoire,” said Dirk Badenhorst, director and founder of Mzansi Ballet.

Founded in 2017, Mzansi Ballet is known for blending South African talent with classical technique to tell both local and international stories. Their past productions include The ABBA Show, Swan Lake, When Ballet Meets Jazz and The Gold Rhino of Mapungubwe.

Adding to the weekend’s festivities, the SA Ballet Competition regionals will take place at the same venue on the morning of 14 February.

Tickets for Private Presley – The Ballet are available now at Webtickets. Audiences are urged not to miss this unforgettable fusion of dance, drama and cultural nostalgia.
