Siyamthanda was spotted by members of the public in Ntshawini last week, but ran away from police who responded.

Twelve-year-old Siyamthanda Mkhwanazi was found safe and returned to his family this morning (May 13) after a search that lasted over two weeks.

Siyamthanda’s guardian, Zandile Thusi, said police brought him back to the Lot 14 area of Glenhills at around 9am.

“To the community of KwaDukuza, police and The North Coast Courier, I wish to extend my deepest gratitude for the help and special thanks to those who called when they saw him in Ntshawini,” she said.

Thusi confirmed that Siyamthanda is healthy and safe.

She added that the family now plans to seek professional help to better understand what may have caused him to run away from home.

Siyamthanda went missing from his Sunday School class on Sunday, April 26 in the Nyoni Yamanzi area of Glenhills.

He was spotted by members of the public in Ntshawini last week, but ran away from police who responded.

The case drew widespread attention across KwaDukuza and the community can now breathe a collective sight of relief.
