Art lovers rejoice! One of KZN’s most popular art festivals is heading to the coast for the first time, with Art in the Country coming to Ballito next month.

The festival, which has been held in the Midlands for the past five years, will host its first coastal exhibition at Collisheen Estate from October 1-4.

About 60 artists were selected from more than 300 applicants to display their work at the inaugural event. Most are from KwaZulu-Natal, but artists from across South Africa will also take part.

Speaking at the media launch at Zimbali Lakes last week, Art in the Country Coastal convenor Kathy Jacob said she was thrilled to bring art to a new audience.

“Unashamedly, we are bowing to artists keen to show and sell their work,” she said, thanking sponsors SPAR KZN, Zimbali Lakes, Panda Paints and Collisheen Estate for their support.

Jacob, an artist herself, said she started Art in the Country to provide a platform for established and emerging artists from diverse backgrounds.

Alongside the art on display and for sale, there will also be food and live music throughout the festival. Entry costs R50 at the door and R30 for pensioners.
