Debs and Squires donate and dazzle

Elegantly dressed ladies and well-groomed gentlemen from Ashton International College enjoyed an evening of celebration at Braeside on Friday, September 20.

Pupils, staff, parents and representative of local charities attended the formal ball which saw the announcement of the winning Debutantes and Squires for 2013 and official donations to selected charities.
Ashton’s Debutantes and Squires programme, started in 2010, sees pupils from grade eight to  matric participate in fund-raising initiatives organised by the pupils. The students also helped in community projects.
The pupils were then scored on their involvement in community service, funds raised and sponsorships sealed. Ashleigh Werner was the winning débutante, with Savannah Shone in second place and Megan Bates claiming third.
The Ball was a chance for all those involved to celebrate the work the pupils had done to help uplift their community and those in need. The students raised a staggering R73 000 for charity.
The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund, Tuinsig Old Aged Home and Greytown Childrens’ Home each received a generous donation of R10 000 at the ball. Other charities that received donations were St Lukes’ Home of Healing, NOAH, Smile and the LIV foundation.
