Ashton International Colleges swimming season kicked off to a tremendous start with the Junior College Inter-house gala last week.

The spirit between London, Oxford and Cambridge was heated, but it was in the pool where swimmers made a statement and no fewer than 10 individual records were broken.

Sven van der Linde broke four records, while Daniel Drew broke three and Callum Osborne, Daniel Eagar, Rouxlè Johnston and Kelsey Goss each claimed one.

Head of the junior college Flick Holmes said the atmosphere at the gala was thrilling.

“It was so exciting to see the competitive spirit among the swimmers, which often resulted in top swimmers changing positions in every event, while their supporters cheered from the side,” said Holmes.

“The decision was made to run the inter-house gala this year as league galas start immediately when school re-opens in 2017. Another opportunity to claim victory for those who lost an event by a mere touch at the wall, will be at the Top Six Gala on November 28.”

Age group winners were Daniel Eagar and Jenna Ellse (U10); Sven van der Linde and Anna Wise (U11); Joshua Perold and Rouxlè Johnston (U12); Gemma Wood won the U13 girls with Daniel Drew and Callum Osborne shared the U13 Boys’ award.

London clinched the Spirit Award and Oxford was the winning house by a 45 point margin.
