It was all joy for the children as they saw the new computer training centre at Ithemba Labasha in Shakas Head at its official launch last Friday.
One of those was a 12-year-old Xolani Dube, who was delighted to sit in front of a computer for the first time.
“I am happy that I will learn how to use a computer. I had never touched it before and I cannot wait to type my name,” said Dube.
The computer room was donated by the Ballito Lions, Footy and LOTS (Learn Observe Train and Serve) to help children gain basic computer skills.
The purpose of the training centre is to educate the youth of Shakas Head in computer literacy and provide various training programs as well as future career guidance.

There is currently a successful Footy / LOTS sports program at Shaka’s Head community field with more than 75 children.
“We will be taking a number of children per week for computer training and helping them with school work. This programme will also be a resource centre and the children will be exposed to other careers out there,” said the founder of Footy and Lion Kyle Crichton.
He said they are looking for people or organisations to sponsor the kids with laptops and other equipment.
The computer room currently has five computers with internet access and a printer.
Shakas Head councillor Mlamuli Ndlela thanked the organisations for helping the community.
“What you are doing in our township will play a huge role in making this disadvantaged community into a better place,” said Ndlela.
