Two Tongaat teachers graduate with PhD

The two sisters aimed to show their pupils that education was important in all stages of life

Two teachers from Tongaat led by example when they both graduated with a PhD degree two weeks ago.

Determined to inspire future generations, sisters Savy Moodley, a teacher at Seatides Combined School, and Indarani Naidoo, a teacher at Fairbreeze Secondary School, both obtained philosophy doctorates in quality management from DUT.

With the demands of being full-time teachers and mothers, Moodley said her sister and herself aimed to show their pupils that education was important in all stages of life and to teach them to thrive despite challenges.

“Pursuing the PhD degree was grueling and challenging.

“It is hard work, determination, dedication and overcoming obstacles that brings triumph.

“Both my sister and I suffered personal challenges through our studies but still persevered.

“My husband passed away which was a tragic loss for me and my sister’s husband underwent a triple bypass last year.”

Moodley was excited to have shared a special moment with her 24-year-old son, Lushen Moodley, who also graduated from DUT with a degree in IT.
