Putting smiles on dials

Bags of more than 100 children's shoes were handed over to the community centre which cares for many members of the community young and old

Tucked away in small informal settlement between Ballito and Tongaat, Smile With Us community centre in Frasers received a welcome visit from The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund last week.

Bags of more than 100 children’s shoes, which had been donated to the fund as part of Ashton International College’s ‘One day without shoes’ outreach campaign, were handed over to the community centre which cares for many members of the community young and old.

Smile With Us runs a homework centre for children, a soup kitchen, women empowerment programmes and ‘soup on wheels’ for those who are unable to leave their homes.

The shoes donated by Ashton have been distributed to various beneficiaries operated by the Orphan Fund, including St Phillips HIV/AID Ministry and Outreach, Safe Haven for Children and Elders and Usizo.

Mervin Veerasamy who runs the centre said: “We cannot thank you all enough for supporting Smile With Us, we are eternally grateful to you all.”

If you would like to assist the centre, you can contact Mervin on 074 961 7061.
