The 2017 Crawford College North Coast matric pupils were celebrated in style as they achieved a 100 per cent pass rate and a 99 per cent Bachelor degree pass.
Their top three students boasted nine distinctions each with Sachin Naidoo taking the top position, followed closely by Saneshan Narainsamy and Keyana Padayachee.
Naidoo has been a top achiever in all fields and has been awarded full colours for academics and half colours for soccer as well as service. He got distinctions in the following subjects: English; mathematics; Afrikaans; life orientation; physical science; life science; accounting; information technology and AP math.
He has been accepted to study mechatronic engineering at the University of Cape Town and actuarial science at Wits.
“I am still deciding which degree I am going to do as I enjoy both fields. Mechatronic engineering is interesting because it allows me to pursue my passion for innovation, physics and IT, but I also love problem solving and numbers which is more in the actuarial science direction,” said Naidoo.
He said his recipe for success is to work consistently.
“I started studying early, just doing a little bit every day. I also try to get seven hours sleep before an exam.”
In his spare time, he enjoys playing soccer and cricket, as well as reading and technology.

He said he is his own role model and thrives on pushing his limits through self motivation and drive.
“I hope to somehow improve the socio-economic conditions of others in South Africa – particularly in my community.”
Close behind the top three with seven distinctions each were Kalin Naidoo, Siphesihle Ntuli and Lushmika Delomoney.
Crawford College principal Andre Loots said the school performed remarkably well this year and that he is extremely proud of each and every students’ achievement.
“I am very excited, the results this year reflect the hard work the students have put into their studies, together with the guidance of the schools’ great quality of teachers and support from the parent body, has produced these amazing results. Well done Class of 2017,” said Loots.
