WATCH: Umhlali Prep School sings Happy 100th Birthday

Umhlali Preparatory School turned 100 years old today!

On this day (February 11) precisely 100 years ago – while the First World War still raged in Europe – Umhlali Preparatory School opened its doors to a humble 14 students.

Fast forward a century and the school has grown in leaps and bounds, with 1073 pupils, 90 staff members and 40 classrooms

Today (Sunday) was supposed to be the big party and while the weather may have pushed the full fun day celebrations to next weekend, parents, kids, staff and alumni still gathered in the school hall to mark the occasion.

On Friday the children all gathered for a few stirring rounds of Happy Birthday and a bit of happy hat-throwing madness.
