The Grade one, two and three pupils of Trinityhouse Palm Lakes dedicated their recent beach outing to collect the ever continuing plastic nurdles.
The children were concerned about the plight of the sea life after learning how detrimental these nurdles are to the health of the ocean’s ecosystem and all the creatures in it.
They learnt how fish and other ocean species ingest these nurdles resulting in their death or the transfer of these plastics along the food chain affecting other creatures and ultimately us as humans at the top of the food chain.

In order to remove as many nurdles as possible, the children were split into small groups and then dispersed across the beach assisted by a teacher to scour for the little plastic balls.
It was encouraging to see that in a fairly short amount of time through a collective effort, the children managed to remove a significant amount of nurdles off our beaches.
Using the children’s example, the school hopes that every time you go down to enjoy some time on the beach, you spend just 10 minutes picking up nurdles.
Remember, every little bit counts!
