Tournament of Minds makes history at Crawford North Coast

This year, TOM South Africa made history, with their first ever Kwa-Zulu Natal regional final that took place on the August 31 at Crawford North Coast. A total of seven KZN schools registered, with 12 teams participating.

The internationally acclaimed Tournament of Minds (TOM) is a spectacular program that encourages creative problem solving, critical thinking, team collaboration and innovation, to name just a few skills.

Teams of seven students spend six weeks working together to solve a problem and develop a dramatic presentation of their solution.

This year, TOM South Africa made history, with their first ever Kwa-Zulu Natal regional final that took place on the August 31 at Crawford North Coast. A total of seven KZN schools registered, with 12 teams participating.

Primary schools that took part included Crawford Preparatory North Coast and Trinityhouse Preparatory Palm Lakes. High school teams included Crawford College North Coast and Curro Mount Richmore.

The winners in each category are automatically eligible to join the TOM South African finals that will be hosted on October 26 at Southdowns College in Pretoria. These teams include:

Trinityhouse Preparatory Palm Lakes (Team 1: Ziyaad Ismail, Tristan Smuts, Tessa Heafield, Nonkosi Xaba, Nothile Dube, Zidane Ismail and Sabelo Ngubane) for their presentation in Language and Literature. Crawford Preparatory North Coast (Team 2: Hannah Harricharan, Daniel Ranjithlall, Thamaray Chetty, Jehaan-Ara Dheoduth and Kairav Lekha) for their presentation in Social Sciences.

Crawford College North Coast (Team 2: Phumzile Mkhiza, Suyashan Valaitham, Kent Williamson, Rachel Graham, Staesha Sankar and Vivesha Govender) for their presentation in Language and Literature. Crawford College North Coast (Team 1: Daisy Pybus, Aphiwe Ndlela, Akwande Nzama, Sbonga Ntombela, Nothando Mdletshe, Dylan Vensky and Mikara Govender) for their presentation in Social Sciences.

Following the TOM South African finals, the winners in each category will be eligible to participate in the international finals to be hosted in Australia.
