The oppressive heat of recent weeks has forced Sizani Combined School in Foxhill to stop computer classes due a broken air-conditioner, resulting in computers overheating.
Teacher Layton Veeraragula said they need at least R18 000 for a new air conditioner.
Local air-conditioning company Air Elec services their other 2 conditioners for free, but the 3rd could not be repaired.
“We recently received 20 laptops from the education department but these cannot be used because of the heat. There are about 100 children who now cannot attend computer classes,” said Veeraragula.
The school has 829 pupils, mostly from disadvantaged homes from townships around KwaDukuza.
