Ashton’s swimming duo on the rise

When not training together or hitting the beach in their spare time, the 2 quietly compete and push each other to become better.

With recent national championship experience behind them, Stirling Dempsey and St John Spoors are both primed for swimming stardom.

The best friend duo were born less than 24 hours apart, both attend Ashton International College (Grade 9) and live in Dunkirk Estate.

The past few months have been particularly fruitful for the pair and they have both qualified and competed in 4 separate national championship events.

Beginning with the SA Open Water Championships (Jeffrey’s Bay), they have since swum the SA Schools Championships (Pretoria), SA Biathlon Championships (Gqeberha) and SA Junior Championships (Gqeberha).

Under the watchful eye of coach Dominique Donner-Rodd, both managed to grab finals appearances (top 10) in 3 of their 4 outings.

The symmetry of their achievements will no doubt see them occupying places on the podium soon.
