Protec Tongaat rewards top achievers

Congratulations were extended to the pupils on their courage, determination and perseverance in overcoming the many challenges they faced.

Protec Tongaat hosted its annual awards day last Friday, celebrating pupils’ achievements in the non-profit organisation’s three core subjects – math, physical science and English.

Protec’s career development and enrichment programmes prepare young people for entry into science, engineering and technological careers.

Board member Rose Stephenson, top physics, English and top overall Grade 11 learner Andile Xaba, Anna-Maria Mkhize and Marion Takis.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary last year, manager Marion Takis on Friday said the milestone would not have been possible without the organisation’s generous donors and the good governance of those who have overseen and steered the branch.

Top English, math, physics and top overall Grade 12 achiever Nokuphiwe Dlodlo is congratulated by Tongaat Hulett’s Michelle Jean-Louis.

Takis paid special tribute to Mark Tucker, who after 30 years as board chairman is retiring at the end of the year.

“It is true to say that it is thanks to Mark, more than any other singular person, that Protec Tongaat has been able to uplift and empower our youth for the past three decades,” said Takis.

She congratulated the pupils on their courage, determination and perseverance in overcoming the many challenges they faced and urged the Grade 12s to continue striving to be the best they could be.
