Ringing in the newbies at Umhlali Prep
The bell and bell tower were erected in 2018 to celebrate the school's centenary.
Umhlali Preparatory’s Grade one pupils marked the beginning of their school career with the traditional bell ringing ceremony last Friday.
Parents and teachers watched with hardly a dry eye as the 148 excited pupils solemnly took their turn ringing the bell.

Grade 1 pupils ring the bell when they enter the school, and again in Grade 7 when they have completed their primary school education.
