Crawford swim ace Shane van der Linde in the fast lane

Crawford International North Coast long-distance swimmer Shane van der Linde certainly made his mark at the international ultra swim marathon competition in Montenegro last month.

Swimming 33.5km over four days, the

Grade 9 learner ranked first in the marathon with a time of 2:42.45, placed fifth in the Skins category and finished ninth overall.

Shane (15) trains eight times a week, covering 280km a month, all while holding down an impressive 75% aggregate in his academic studies.

His ultimate goal is to represent South Africa at the Olympic Games, but currently has his sight set on the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
