Protec Tongaat 100% matric pass rate triumph!

93% of pupils qualified for university admission with a Bachelor’s degree.

Protec Tongaat has once again demonstrated excellence, as the class of 2024 achieved a 100% matric pass rate, with two pupils earning seven distinctions each.

Anna Maria Mkhize, Tongaat Protec’s assistance manager, proudly shared that 93% of their pupils qualified for university admission with a Bachelor’s degree, while the remaining 7% were eligible for diploma studies.

“This remarkable achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication and expertise of our esteemed tutors, as well as the resilience, determination and diligence of our exceptional pupils. We extend our sincerest gratitude and heartfelt congratulations to each and every one of them,” said Mkhize.

The 30 pupils collectively earned 12 distinctions in mathematics, four in physical science and eight in English, showcasing the significant impact of Protec’s extra-curricular education enrichment programme, which focuses on promoting mathematics, science and technological literacy for pupils in grades 10, 11 and 12 from a number of different schools. There are Protec branches across the country.

Nosiphiwe Mzobe from Mashiyamahle High School and Nosihle Ntuli from Sisebenzile Secondary School, both hailing from Ndwedwe, emerged as the top achievers.

Each earned seven distinctions and plan to pursue pharmacy degrees – Mzobe at the University of Western Cape and Ntuli at Wits University.

Ntuli (18) attributed her success to her determination paired with significant support.

“It all comes down to dedication and discipline. I struggled with maths initially, but I made it my mission to seek all the help I could get. Joining Protec in Grade 11 and seeking extra guidance from a local teacher transformed my confidence and abilities,” she said.

Mzobe (18) also emphasised the importance of the support she received.

“I had no excuse because I had all the support I needed from my school, Protec, and my parents, who encouraged me to focus on my studies instead of house chores. Everyone believed in me, and letting them down was not an option. I am incredibly grateful for the encouragement and dedication from Protec’s management and tutors. It gave me the boost I needed to succeed,” she said.
