Massive celebrations as Umhlali Prep turns 107

School staff and families united for a fun-filled morning on Saturday.

Umhlali Preparatory celebrated its 107th birthday on Saturday, with pupils, parents and staff enjoying the carnival atmosphere. The children had a blast on the water slides and inflatables, and enjoyed some of their favourite treats from the market stalls.

The school has grown into a cornerstone of the North Coast community since its founding in 1918. When it first opened, it had only 14 pupils, some of whom arrived on horseback. Today, it boasts an enrolment of 1 095 pupils.

“Our school’s founding is always a special occasion to celebrate. From just 14 students in 1918, we have grown tremendously and become an integral part of the broader Ballito community. We take great pride in our school’s continued evolution and our reputation for excellence, both in and beyond the classroom,” said school principal Sandy Wiggill.
