Ashton swim academy makes a splash with 29 medals
Young swimmers dominate Mini-lympics, proving their potential in provincial competitions.
Ashton Swim Academy’s young stars swam to huge success at the recent Kloof Swim Club Mini-lympics.
Competing against swimming clubs from across the province, the North Coast speedsters – mostly members of the ASA learn-to-swim Sailies – earned 29 medals and four overall age group titles. The group almost doubled their medal haul from last year.
Nine members of the team claimed medals on the day: Taitum Murton (four golds, one silver, overall winner girls U9), Anah van Niekerk (three golds, one silver, overall winner girls U8), Miley Murton (three golds, one silver, overall winner girls U6), Leo van Niekerk (two golds, two silver, overall winner boys U6), Sarvani Kistnasami (one gold, three silvers, girls U7), Eli Kegel (one gold, three bronze, boys U7), Ava Kenyon (two bronze, girls U6), Gemma Stoop (one bronze, girls U11) and Matt Greene (one bronze, boys U8).
“It’s been a big step forward for us as a club,” said coach Charl Crous.
“There’s so much spirit in the learn-to-swim programme, and it’s great to see how competitive they can be on the big stage.”
