Reddam’s cultural community delivers music and dance extravaganza

The school’s annual Picnic at Dusk event drew hundreds to watch the packed show.

Reddam House Ballito lit up the night as pupils dazzled a packed crowd with pop-powered performances at the school’s vibrant Picnic at Dusk showcase last week.

This year’s theme, The King and Queen of Pop, paid tribute to music legends Michael Jackson and Madonna. A total of 31 group and solo performances by junior and senior college pupils brought the icons’ greatest hits to life through music, dance and vocal artistry.

“It was an educational show as many of the kids didn’t know who Madonna or Michael Jackson were,” said artistic director and choreographer Victoria Andrews. “But I knew the parents would vibe to the music.”

Months of preparation by staff and pupils from Grades 1 to 12 culminated in the two-hour extravaganza. The evening opened with instrumental and choir pieces, followed by energetic dance and vocal numbers.

Highlights included the marimba band’s rendition of Smooth Criminal, a Grade 10 dance quartet’s moving take on Frozen and crowd favourites like Billie Jean, Thriller, and Like a Prayer. Andrews said the large-scale production fostered strong teamwork and highlighted Reddam’s commitment to arts and culture.
