Ashton surfers glide to second place at KZN school champs

Ashton International College Ballito’s girl’s surfers claimed all four top spots in the individual competition at the KZN Schools Surfing League Champs finals in Durban last Friday (June 6).

Catherine Jacob finished first overall, followed by Frances Wang, Coco Clark and Lola Wang to ensure an all North Coast podium. In the boy’s individual competition, Zak Tredoux earned third place.

The individual heroics led to Ashton’s first team claiming second position in the team event, while the second team took a respectable eighth place at Durban’s Dairy Beach.

The overall second place finish earned Ashton qualification to the South African schools competition which will be held later this year.

Netball

In other Ashton sports news, the school’s 1st team netballers unfortunately lost both their matches at the 2025 DStv Schools Netball Challenge at Hoy Park in Durban on Saturday (June 7).

Twelve schools did battle to earn one of three spots at the national finals at Hoërskool Dr. E.G. Jansen in Boksburg from July 25 to 27.

It was tough going for Ashton. The girls lost their opening match 12-27 to Shayamoya Area Secondary School and their second game 16-29 to Isikhalisezwe High School. They will miss out on this year’s nationals.

Soccer

The boys soccer team travelled to Queensburgh on Thursday (June 5) to play in their KZN schools league match against Amanzimtoti.

The South Coast school was too strong, edging Ashton 2-1 to claim a hard-fought win.
