Curro’s dominant netball 1st team claims another Fast5 trophy

A tournament win at Gelofte was their second in two weeks.

Curro Salt Rock’s 1st team went unbeaten to claim the Gelofte Skool Fast5 Netball Tournament in Pinetown on Saturday.

The school made it back-to-back Fast5 tournament wins after their gold-medal display at the Hoërskool Vryheid tournament at the beginning of August, adding to a bulging trophy cabinet.

The Fast5 1st team defeated hosts Hoërskool Suid-Natal, Kuswag Skool and Kingsway High School before edging Kuswag by one point in a thrilling final.

First-team skipper Luzanri Buys highlighted teamwork and determination as the keys to their success against quality opponents, but she believes her team can reach even greater heights.

Curro recently won the Vryheid Fast5 Tournament.

“Our overall performance was excellent, but we recognise the importance of improving on-court communication to grow even stronger,” said Buys.

“The tournament provided an invaluable opportunity to compete against high-quality opposition.”

Curro’s U16A team won the third-place playoff against the Curro U16B side, who had entered the ‘A’ competition.

U16A captain Taydon Tukker said adrenaline and pressure at these tournaments are high, but playing with friends makes the experience worthwhile, regardless of results.

“With a little more teamwork and discipline, I believe we can push ourselves and make it to more finals,” said Tukker.

Curro’s U16B side made the playoffs despite playing in the ‘A’ division.

Curro head coach Chené Gissing congratulated her players, noting their personal growth and improvement as a group.

“A fourth-place finish for the U16B team is an outstanding achievement we are especially proud of,” said Gissing.
