Goals galore as Eden and Reddam clash in 7-a-side hockey

Twenty-seven goals were scored between the two games last week.

Twenty-seven goals were scored across two thrilling hockey matches between Eden Village Preparatory School and Reddam House Ballito on Wednesday.

Hosted at the Eden mini-AstroTurf in Foxhill, the two seven-a-side boys’ matches were played without goalkeepers, ensuring plenty of fast-paced, skilful action and goals galore.

The U11s opened the day, and Eden surged to a 4-2 lead at the halftime break.

Reddam refused to back down however, mounting a spirited comeback to level the game at 6-6 for a deserved draw, despite late chances to win for both teams.

Most of the U13 match was played in the middle third of the pitch.

Six-all proved a popular scoreline as the U13s found themselves tied with a few minutes remaining in their clash. Eden drew on home support and pulled away with three late goals however, claiming the game 9-6.

Joy and jubilation: Eden Village celebrate a goal against Reddam.

“They were tough games,” said Eden Village head coach, Monde Madlala.

There was a lot of skill on display at Foxhill.

“These were two very good games. The players showed a lot of determination on the field today,” said Msomi.

“The U11s were losing 4-1 but came back to draw 6-all. The U13 game had a lot of talent on display from both teams. Although we lost, the future looks bright.”
