Danville Park Girls’ High School went unbeaten to claim regional victory in the returning SPAR Netball Challenge in Ballito on Saturday.

Hosts Ashton International College Ballito and fellow North Coast school Curro Salt Rock both impressed in the group stages, but were knocked out by strong Durban teams in the semi-finals.

The SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Fast 5 Netball Challenge is an annual competition held across 10 regions in the province, with each regional winner qualifying for a grand final.

This year’s Durban North regional competition drew eight teams to Ballito, with each school playing the others once in a round-robin format.

Danville topped the group stage with 21 points, followed closely by free-scoring Ashton, which scored 90 goals, more than any other school. Our Lady of Fatima and Curro Salt Rock claimed the remaining semi-final berths, while Crawford International College North Coast finished seventh.

Defending champions Danville proved too strong for Curro in the first semi-final, winning 19-5. Fatima and Ashton played out a closer contest, but the Durban North school held on to beat the hosts 15-10.

Danville beat Fatima 13-10 in the final to claim their third regional title. They will represent the Durban North region at the grand final at Epworth in Pietermaritzburg in October.
