This cosy a la carte restaurant is situated at La Montagne luxury hotel. I’ve had some really outstanding meals there.
The one thing that did really impress me was the service, our waitress was one of the best I’ve ever had in Ballito. She was well-spoken, entertaining and efficient.
I had the lobster bisque as a starter and it was very nice – quite rich and full of that wonderful crayfish flavour. My dining partner’s calamari starter was a little tough but with good flavour.
For mains I had my heart set on the Seafood Bouillabaisse.
The fish, prawns, mussels and calamari were perfect. However, the broth was a little disappointing. I think maybe something a little less traditional would have worked better, like a cream base or tomato base. It tasted a bit like the broth was not home made. This is just my personal taste. However, as for my partners prawn dish, the king prawns were of a good quality and size and were done very well.
I really appreciated the important small touches at The Crayfish Inn.
In so many restaurants where you get charged extra for everything, we received a complementary sherry and a full accompaniment of sauces (peri-peri, garlic and lemon butter) with our prawns.
It really gave me the impression of old school dining where the customer is King and is offered a superb service.
The Crayfish Inn, which is open to the public, is well worth a visit!
