After listening to the complaints for non-delivery of essential water by the Ilembe District Municipality to the Stanger Manor/Stanger Heights areas since the New Year week-end, one has to commiserate with them.
It is our holiday-time, with visitors, school children et as well as the heat and humidity we have to endure. To aggravate matters communications with Ilembe are nonexistent. What happened to the proposed SMS system? What is wrong with using placards on lamp posts to communicate, like they do at elections? Where are the tankers to service the consumers? This irresponsible attitude of Ilembe staff is most annoying specially when none of them live in the areas concerned.
It appears that the three water pumps were not working and Ilembe did not have any back-up pumps. What is the turn-around time for a) repair b) replacement. With sales so large, it would be foolish to lose sales because of no back-up equipment. Back-up equipment pays for itself if not stolen.
Why doesn’t Ilembe carry any back-up stock of critical equipment such as pumps, meters etc? It is easy to imagine that with the high theft rate and no prosecution, Ilembe warehouses would be empty.
It is 20 years down the line and Ilembe still has not got it right. They should give up being our water provider and let us find an enterprise that can do an efficient job.
