For the second year in a row, the prestigious title of ‘Taste of the Dolphin Coast’ goes to Impulse by the Sea.
The competition was tough this year with Impulse coming up against some heavyweight competitors, every one an outstanding restaurant in their own right.
But the votes are in and the public has chosen. Well done to Impulse!
This Tinley Manor restaurant has been a firm local favourite for the past 25 years. That is a difficult reputation to beat.
I stopped in for a meal on Sunday for another taste. Who can blame me? The food is addictive.
We started off with a calamari starter and cheese and jalapeno half moons. The calamari was really good, tender and  perfectly coated. The cheese and jalapeno half moons are by far one of my favourite starters on their menu. The balance of spice with the melted cheese is divine and the most difficult part is having the patience to wait until the cheese has cooled down slightly, so you don’t blister your lips (speaking from experience).
For our main meal our first dish was the butter chicken with prawns, which has taken over as their best seller and I can see why. It was fantastic.
I have tried most items on their menu at one time or another, from the famous prawn curry to the incredible paneer curry. So for our second dish, this time I decided to break with tradition and selected something that is completely out of my comfort zone. I ordered the crab curry! I have only had a crab curry once before and I have no idea how to tackle this ‘meal in a shell’ (without needing a change of clothes afterwards). I was rewarded for my bravery, as this meal was a real winner.
The flavour of the delicate crab was really complimented with the curry’s gravy and once I got the hang of it I found there was quite a bit of meat to be pried out of those beautifully cooked crabs. I will admit that as my technique needs work, I did make a bit of a mess of myself, but I will just have to go back for more and work on it.
This year is the Indian restaurant’s 25th birthday and I know the owners are planning a revamp to celebrate, so that is also something to look forward to.
