A mega ‘thank you’ to the powers-that-be at Brettenwood and especially to Norman Barter who heads the maintenance team, for their tireless efforts to keep the verges of the road down from Brettenwood main gate to Sheffield Beach in beautiful condition.
Many of us – both pedestians and drivers – travel that section of road daily. Until you wrought your magic on those verges they were a potential death-trap. Pedestrians were forced to walk on the road because it was impossible to do otherwise. The dense undergrowth provided a hide-out for thieves and people were often robbed or beaten on their walk home. The road itself was dangerously narrowed by encroaching trees, bushes and Napier fodder making it treacherous for drivers Plus the whole approach to our peaceful ‘village’ of Sheffield was a shameful eyesore.
Thanks to Norman and Brettenwood it is now a delightful winding meander through pristine parklands – shady trees, palms, manicured lawns. A pleasurable experience for both pedestrians and drivers.
