A disappointing Valentine’s day

Despite the massive sale of roses, chocolates and teddy bears on valentines day, I am sure that most Valentine’s evenings are spent on a romantic candle-lit dinner. I booked at The Boathouse in Ballito which turned out to be a total disappointment.
On arrival we were welcomed so well with a romantic set up, but when we had a look at the menu, it was not what we had expected. I was told The Boathouse restaurant was one the very best, but the staff was not as accommodating as expected. It was my girlfriend’s birthday as well and I wanted to surprise her with the birthday cake I had bought. We wanted seafood, but all that was being offered was pork and beef which we do not eat. We asked if they could just make something for my girlfriend because it was her day but there was no way they could help us. I was totally disappointed and it left my girlfriend crying.
To restaurant managers: please, if customers are making a reservation please let them know the meals for the day.

Taryn van der Westhuizen, The Boathouse General Manager, replies:
We would firstly like to apologise that you did not enjoy your Valentines’ Day dinner with us. On special occasions we normally do a set menu so that we can offer something different. This menu was sent out to all guests who booked. I do apologise if you did not receive the menu. There were a few people who advised us in advance that they had special dietary requirements. We accommodated these guests as best we could. Please can you contact me directly with regards to your complaint. I will be following up with all staff concerned. My email is gm@boathouse.co.za.
