As a party we believe that it is our democratic right to voice our opinion and represent our party’s nationwide stance to support Israel in her right to defend her people. It is a stance that the party decided to continue supporting at our FCOP held in Johannesburg last month.
The ACDP like many others is grieved by the loss of life and terrible anguish to families on both sides of the Israel and Palestine conflict. We are not just supporting Israel; we are supporting the people of Palestine who are suffering under the tyranny of Hamas oppression.
Our municipality represents all citizens, including Jews, who must be noted are some of our biggest ratepayers who contribute to the breadbasket of this municipality. Therefore I strongly believe that if we want to take a stance for humanity, we cannot position ourselves to just one side. The solidarity march, standing with Palestine ‘only’, chose to ignore the fact that the human rights of Israelis are being violated by the constant threat of missiles being launched at them.
The ACDP will not withdraw its support of Israel and her right to defend her people. We will continue to unashamedly stand with Israel against terrorism.
