Firstly I would like to commend and salute Reverend Nel Sewraj on taking a stand on what he believes is right (ACDP branch stands with Israel, Courier August 8).
I personally support the ACDP and Rev Sewraj 100% for being a voice in the KDM council. It is really amazing to see that our rates and taxes are used in such a bias and frivolous way. I am not pro- Israel nor anti-Palestine but why did the municipality support this so called human rights march using our money?
I am not supporting the fact that women and children have become victims of this war between Palestine and Israel. How many other wars have taken place on our doorstep? We have our issues in our area, for example electricity sub stations that need upgrading, the power cuts daily are a real joke, potholes, water problems, taxi violence, HIV, poverty-stricken areas where money could have been used on something more beneficial to all of us.
What baffles me is that we fight for service deliveries which take ages to be handled, but a decision like this could be made just like that.
Not everybody in the municipality was in favour of the march but the municipality took it upon themselves to make this decision, based on sentiment. Furthermore this was not a national stance for municipalities to march so it goes to show that our municipality does its own thing.
I suggest that council and so-called leaders should use wisdom and fairness and not go by emotions when making decisions that affect us all.
