Praying for peace in Palestine

Thanks to the writer Catherine Thate for a brilliant and inspiring letter (Show people of Gaza they are not forgotten, Courier August 22) highlighting the plight of the women, children and old folk in this conflict in Gaza. Over 700 children lost their lives. It saddens me more if their ages were revealed. Rather I did not know. These little ones posed no threat to Israel.
Who else cares? Yes the 500 South African Jews who were appalled and devastated by Israelis assault on Gaza. Here I refer to page 11 of the Sunday Times, August 10, 2014 issue. I salute you guys! The very next page, we read a report of a 10-year-old boy killed outside a mosque in Gaza city.
This now reminds me of an article I read in the March 28, 1989 copy of the Natal Mercury, titled ‘Israeli troops shoot dead four-year-old’, Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian boy yesterday during clashes with protesters in the occupied West Bank, report continued that he was shot in the chest and was dead on arrival at hospital.
Who else cares, the Jews who took to the streets of Tel Aviv demanding Israel stop the bombardment of Gaza, they cared. However, some members in the Israeli cabinet were disappointed when the cease fire was announced, they wanted it to continue, as reported in our local newspaper recently.
Yet out of all this loss of life (over 2000), we find people talking about that R80 000 spent on a march through Stanger. It will not bring a dear one back to life, it is not even enough for a hip replacement!
We pray that everlasting peace returns to that region. Thanks again to Catherine, we need more readers like you who express their concern with the innocent children and old folk caught up in this war.
