We’ve been fortunate to live in a home with this magnificent tree that blooms once a year and shows off its flowers for two months only, in Spring.
Its proper name is Bombacaceae Pseudobombax Ellipticum. If anyone can throw light on how this tree from Mexico/Guatemala arrived in Ballito it would be very interesting.
In the meantime I have a shocking pink carpet of flowers that have dropped off onto the ground, not only through wind but when they have outlived their main stage they wilt and drop off the tree. Fascinating! Great to watch at night as we use a spotlight right onto the tree.
Nature is truly magnificent.
