I hereby write to inform the community that we, the Makhoba family, have decided to hold a ceremony to pray for our son Senzo, who drowned at Thompsons Bay in January 2011.
The sad news is that we never found his body. We have permission from the municipality to hold the ceremony from 8pm on Saturday, October 11, until the next day. As well as the family, members of our church and the sangoma will be present. We are not sure what time we are going to leave the site, depending on things that are required to be done for him. According to our culture there will be a cow and a goat, but we will not slaughter them – we just have to have them there during the course of prayer.
We have asked the lifeguards and police to be on standby, so that we feel safe. We humbly ask the community to be patient and understand as we say goodbye to our son.
